looking For a Job at over 60

I have been looking for a job to supplement my retirement, and get back into the work force.
Why you ask? A number of reasons, the main one being that our government can't fix the economy, and all the prices keep rising, taking a large bite out of our scarce resources call pension.
So how is the job hunnting going?
Well, I am finding that most companies totally ignore you if there appears to be any age factor involved, and with 34 years experience and a master's degree that is the case with me.
I am amazed at how often companies and how many ways a company can find to discriminate against older people trying to re-enter the workforce.
You say ! what they can't discriminate? Well true, however, what is 100 % rejection rate where they tell you they decided to go in another direction, or that you were considered but thanks for applying?
Discrimination is taking place for older job seekers at an alarming rate, they now only look at your resume if you currently have a job? How is that not discrimination? Also, the only look at your resume if you have a current degree graduation date, and limited employment experience? How is that not discrimination?
Well, in business today, none of those examples that go on are called discrimination.
Today they call it slective marketing of new employees.

We are back to having control over our time?

After four weeks ( my wife insists it  was only 2 weeks) of babysitting the grand kids, taking the mother in law back and forth from the hospital to home, we finally have control over our own days.
I say this as the phone rings an another commitment appears ??? @#^&*%%###@$@!!!!!

Today we( my wife and I) started back into our exercise program and training, for the 13.1 Detroit half marathon in October. We are hoping that we can get into a regular program and increase our mileage and stamina.
After three weeks off, I did 4 miles in 50 minutes, it felt like 40 miles in 5 hours???
My body feels like I ran to Toledo and back? It is going to be a long road back to where I was when I did the CF River half marathon in march.
Everyone tells us, that you take the date of your run, and back up 12 weeks and start training. What they forget to tell you, is that that schedule is for some one between 20 and 40. At 62, there is a whole different set of needs for the body to build up to the run or 13.1. Not withstanding, the motivation to get out there and commit to the time requirements? And how do you do that when everyone wants to involve you in what ever?
Well we both started today, and it felt good to get back to some exercise, and I hope we can keep the program going?
The race is a big factor in my wanting to continue running, however the side effects of having a more healthier life is really starting to be the main focus of my exercise.
I feel so much better when I get three to four days of great exercise, and I am more than mentally prepared to deal with everything as well.
Exercise is starting to be a goal in its self now! Wow I never thought me the world's consummate couch potato would ever get to this point.
I guess you can teach old big dogs new tricks.

How to keep going when the motivation is gone

How do we keep going when the motivation is gone or at least lagging.

I am not sure, if anyone has any ideas let me know.
I do know that throughout life you have highs and lows, rain and sunshine.
Right now must be a low monsoon season, as I am struggling to get back to training and feeling good.
So starting after we are done with the kids babysitting, I will have to get going if I wish to finish the International Detroit half Marathon.
take care check back later.

Sad news for Detroit Sports :-(

Saint Nick has retired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never again are we going to see as great a player as Nick Lidstrom.
I feel exceedingly sad that I will not get to see him take the ice again at the Joe, and thousands of young fans will only get to see him in news clips.
Only time will tell if the new young players will compete at as high a level, I have hopes for Brendan Smith, maybe he will be our next Nick Lidstrom.

Good luck Nick Thanks for the memories.
