Why to stay in Michigan if you are over 60

I have given this alot of thought, and when we came to Florida this year I wondered why would anyone want to move here?
There is always plenty of sunshine, moderate temperature during the gray Michigan winters, and lots of opportunity for physical activity.
So why stay in Michigan?
Only reason I can see is that that is where the family is? Especially the grand kids. hopefully when our Son and his wife (in North Carolina) have grand kids, we can move closer, or have more opportunity to get to know those grand kids and have them get  to know and love us.
So the answer to the question?
Certainly not the economy, or not the taxes applied to seniors so that business can go out of state to hire (see previous post).
Certainly it is not the weather in the winter, as gray should only be for the hair not the sky for 6 months.

I guess I will have to be satisfied with the family answer? until I hit the lottery and can afford to fly my family to where I want to live on a regular basis.

take care and check back later

  1. Weather is not the only factor of why Seniors should not stay in Michigan. First of all our beloved Governor has made it necessary to review our retirement funds. What we have worked for all those years and paid taxes on, is being taxed again. (Wasn't this one of reasons why the colonies fought England?) In addition to the rise in gas prices (other than California, we are the highest in the nation), increasing licence plate and registration fees for vehicles, worthless home and property values, failing schools, unemployment, increased crime and failing health care, its a wonder why anyone would stay in Michigan, young or over 60.
