After four weeks ( my wife insists it was only 2 weeks) of babysitting the grand kids, taking the mother in law back and forth from the hospital to home, we finally have control over our own days.
I say this as the phone rings an another commitment appears ??? @#^&*%%###@$@!!!!!
Today we( my wife and I) started back into our exercise program and training, for the 13.1 Detroit half marathon in October. We are hoping that we can get into a regular program and increase our mileage and stamina.
After three weeks off, I did 4 miles in 50 minutes, it felt like 40 miles in 5 hours???
My body feels like I ran to Toledo and back? It is going to be a long road back to where I was when I did the CF River half marathon in march.
Everyone tells us, that you take the date of your run, and back up 12 weeks and start training. What they forget to tell you, is that that schedule is for some one between 20 and 40. At 62, there is a whole different set of needs for the body to build up to the run or 13.1. Not withstanding, the motivation to get out there and commit to the time requirements? And how do you do that when everyone wants to involve you in what ever?
Well we both started today, and it felt good to get back to some exercise, and I hope we can keep the program going?
The race is a big factor in my wanting to continue running, however the side effects of having a more healthier life is really starting to be the main focus of my exercise.
I feel so much better when I get three to four days of great exercise, and I am more than mentally prepared to deal with everything as well.
Exercise is starting to be a goal in its self now! Wow I never thought me the world's consummate couch potato would ever get to this point.
I guess you can teach old big dogs new tricks.
take care and check back later
